Only Homeless Shelter in Collin County
As the county has grown to over 854,000 residents, the issue of homelessness has grown with it. We started with just 10 beds for men only in 1984, but have expanded our capacity over the years to 160 beds for men, women and families.
The organizational leadership at The Samaritan Inn consists of a volunteer Board of Directors, several committees that focus on specific areas of operation and a staff of forty-five full and part-time employees. A large pool of volunteers also provides critical support.
Family Homelessness is Growing in Collin County
Collin County is one of the wealthiest areas in Texas, but poverty and homelessness are growing issues. Last year, we were unable to help more than 500 families experiencing homelessness because we were already at capacity.

The Samaritan Inn provides, at no cost, a secure and clean place to live. Our building has separate living areas for men, women and families. We also have a playroom and fully equipped playground. We serve three well balanced meals daily and provide personal hygiene products. If necessary, clothing, coats, and shoes are also available. Within this nurturing environment, professional caseworkers assess each resident and his/her needs to develop an individual plan with a goal of independence. Referrals are made for support programs such as legal and financial counseling, mental and physical health services. We provide classes in a variety of life skills, like parenting, budgeting, job training, computer skills and customer service job and more. Individual programs are reviewed regularly to ensure that all the necessary steps are being taken to reach independence in the future.
