FOUNDATION GIVES $200,000 FOR THE SAMARITAN INN’S
McKinney (November 27, 2002) – The Samaritan Inn today announced that the Meadows Foundation has approved a grant in the amount of $200,000 for The Inn’s “Making More Room at the Inn” fund drive that began in March, 2002. The grant caps the $600,000 goal that the Inn projected to purchase and renovate the county’s minimum-security prison facility located on Highway 5 just north of 380. The building was purchased from the county in August, 2002 for $100,000. The $500,000 balance of the funds goal is designated to remodel the building for The Inn’s purposes. Work has begun to ready the new building for move-in. A team of about 100 people from Grace Community Church in Plano have prepped the building for renovation. The abatement project begins December 2 and is projected to be completed by Christmas. In December, the Home Builder’s Association will be informing The Inn of their captains for the renovation process. A new architectural design by Omniplan Architects has been donated. The new plan will better meet the needs of families and individuals staying at The Inn with added laundry and shower facilities for each wing, a freestanding front porch with bench seating, a library and a more spacious design.
